Foo Fighters Albums for song lyrics and biography.

Foo Fighters is a grunge band formed by Dave Grohl after the end of Nirvana. Foo Fighters have become very popular worldwide. In addition to five albums, they have also appeared on many movie soundtracks, such as Godzilla. Foo Fighters started off as a project for Grohl. Dave had written many songs while in Nirvana, but they did not release them because of differing chemistry. After Kurt Cobain's death, Grohl entered Barrett Jones' Seattle studio to record these songs. With the exception of a guitar part on "X-Static" by Afghan Whigs' Greg Dulli, Dave played every instrument and sang every vocal. The recordings were professionally mixed at Capitol Records, they became the Foo Fighters' debut album. Grohl didn't want the Foo Fighters to be a one-man band, however. He wanted Krist Novoselic to join, but they were both worried that would appear as Nirvana-resurrected. So, he drafted Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith of Sunny Day Real Estate. Pat Smear, who played guitar with Nirvana, also joined the Foo Fighters.

The Foo FIghter's "This Is a Call" form the debut album was released in 1995. "I'll Stick Around" and "Big Me" were released in the months that followed, and the band toured through Spring 1996. As the band was getting ready to record a second album with producer Gil Norton, Grohl and Goldsmith began to fight. Goldsmith's decision to left, and the Foo Fighters moved to Los Angeles. The album was re-recorded with Dave on drums. The Colour and the Shape, was released in 1997. Grohl needed a drummer, and Alanis Morissette's touring drummer Taylor Hawkins volunteered. In September 1997, Pat Smear announced his leaving of the band replaced himself with Franz Stahl of Scream. After recording There Is Nothing Left to Lose, Stahl also left, and Chris Shiflett replaced him. When Gary Gersh left Capitol Records, the Foo Fighters went with him to RCA. GAS Entertainment was formed, hosting the Foo FIghters, the Beastie Boys, Jimmy Eat World, Beck, and others. Dave Letterman introduced the Foo Fighters as "My favorite band, playing my favorite song". The fourth Foo Fighters album was recorded twice. After the first recording, Grohl worked with the Queens of the Stone Age, recording Songs for the Deaf. This gave him new ideas, and in only ten days, One By One was rerecorded. The first "version" of the album has been called by one band member the Million Dollar Demos.

When George Bush started playing Times Like These at campaigns, Dave Grohl started publicly supporting John Kerry, and played solo at some of his events. The Foo Fighters eventually joined Grohl for in Arizona coinciding with one of the presidential debates. This influenced the next Foo Fighters album, In Your Honor. Grohl says that the two-disc release is a perfect memorial for band's 10th anniversary. One highlight on the acoustic part is "Friend of a Friend", which has a long history. Grohl wrote the song in 1990, based on his impressions of Cobain and Novoselic after joining Nirvana. He recorded the song in 1990, and included it on an informal collection of songs, Pocketwatch, released on cassette in 1992 as "Late!". The version on In Your Honor is very similar to the original, with Dave accompanying himself on guitar.
