What-Is-What?     Technology questions, technology answers

XYZ Albums for song lyrics and biography.

XYZ was the name of Jimmy Page's experimental "supergroup" with Chris Squire and Alan White. The name was taken from the members' former bands: eX-Yes-and-led-Zeppelin. Robert Plant was present at one XYZ rehearsal, but decided that the project did not suit him. This pretty much led to the abandonment of the XYZ project. The only single released during the timeframe that the band was together was Run With The Fox. Essentially, Run With The Fox only used an original XYZ tune, and was credited to Yes members Alan and Chris.

With Jimmy Page ripping up the guitar and Chris Squire singing while shuffling between bass guitar and keyboards, XYZ had a powerful sound that was confined mostly to basements for many years. The band never released an album, and the only material that has survived are bootlegs tapes recorded at Chris Squire's home. These were probably recorded in April 1981. They were stolen from Jimmy Pages' house in 1987. Two instrumental demos have surfaced, one of which was composed into the late Yes song Mind Drive. The other was a psychedelic version of Fortune Hunter. Another track, And Do You Believe It, was released in 2001 by Yes under the name Can You Imagine. An alternative name for the original track was Can You See. The final XYZ demo tape went by the names Telephone Spies or Telephone Secrets.
