Quasimoto Biography

Biography of Quasimoto. Detailed Quasimoto profile and review.

Quasimoto was one of Madlib's many guises. In this guise, Mablib released The Unseen in 2000. The Unseen was named as one of the top albums of the year by Spin Magazine. The Unseen Instrumentals follow-up The Further Adventures Of Lord Quas came in 2005, along with The Further Instrumentals. Quasimoto's high voice is produced by rapping over slowed-down beats. The recording is then re-recorded at regular sped, giving the impression that the voice is very high. Quasimoto uses many Melvin Van Peebles samples in his music. A joint project between the two is expected.

Otis Jackson Jr was born in in Oakland, CA to Otis and Senesca Jackson. The family moved to Oxnard early in young Otis' life. Otis began making music with Lootpack, who signed to Stomes Throw Records. 1999 saw Lootpack release one studio album and two singles. Otis became known as Madlib, and worked with Tha Alkaholiks for several albums. In 2001, Quasimoto (aka Otis, aka Madlib) and Yesterdays New Quintet released the album Angles Without Edges. Yesterdays New Quintet was an Electronic Hip Hop Jazz band. With the exception of Otis, all the band member used fake names: Malik Flavors, Monk Hughes, Ahmad Miller, and Joe McDuphrey.

Quasimoto considers himself to be a DJ, producing and MCing only parttime. The first of his many remix projects was the 2002 Blunted in the Bomb Shelter. Blunted in the Bomb Shelter was mostly composed of old reggae B-sides. Another 2003 effort remixed Blue Note Records. Much of this album was composed of original Blue Notes tape. Other parts were rerecorded by Quasimoto. In this same year, Quasimoto worked with J Dilla, or Jay Dee, on Jaylib (Jay Dilla combined with Madlib) Champion Sound. In 2004 Quasimoto released Madvillain together with MF Doom. The album was an instant success.
