The Faces Biography

Biography of The Faces. Detailed The Faces profile and review.

The Faces were a rock band formed from the ashes of The Small Faces after Steve Marriott left to form Humble Pie. Ron Wood and Rod Stewart joined Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenny Jones of The Small Faces. Their most successful songs included "Stay with Me", "Had Me a Real Good Time", "Cindy Incidentally", and "Richmond". As Rod Stewart's solo career became more successful than the Faces themselves, the band became subordinate to their lead singer. The Faces' final studio album was Ooh La La. The members of The Faces had varied careers after the band broke up. Ron Wood joined the Rolling Stones. Ronnie Lane formed Slim Chance and had a solo career that ended prematurely when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Kenny Jones joined the Who after the death of Keith Moon. Ian McLagan became a session musician and later joined Billy Bragg's band The Blokes. Rod Stewart's solo career was massively successful.

Although The Faces enjoyed relatively modest success compared to contemporaries such as The Rolling Stones and The Who, The Faces played a vital role in the birth of what would eventually become punk. Their alcoholic high-octane live performances and albums gave direct rise to groups such as The Sex Pistols, The New York Dolls, and The Damned. The Sex Pistols have cited the Faces as an influence on both their music and devil-take-all personas. Following the collapse of the punk movement, the influence of the Faces gave rise to rock-revivalists such as The Charlatans, The Black Crowes, Pearl Jam, Whiteout and The Stereophonics.
